Extracapsular extraction involves removal of most lens tissue but the back part of the lens capsule is left in place. In infants and young children, whose lenses are relatively soft, the lens tissuemay be withdrawn through a hol-low needle, a procedure called aspiration. A variety of extracapsular techniques are also used to remove the lens in adults. |
