There is a proverbial saying "Necessity is the mother of invention". During the year 1999 and 2000, Corneal Surgeons in private practice in Delhi were deprived of the supply of donor corneas by Eye Banks in Delhi due to their internally governed rules and regulations.
On the initiative of Prof. Madan Mohan, "club" was created to discuss not only issues related to Eye Banking and Keratoplasty, but also the management of other complex corneal problems. The experience of these group meetings were so exciting and educative, that it was decided to enlarge their scope. A "Cornea Society" was thus created to share the experiences with other colleagues interested in Cornea as a sub specialty.
In the view of immense contribution made Prof. Madan Mohan is the understanding of corneal diseases and surgery and promotion of eye banking in India, it was decided to start a cornea Club. The society was named as the "Madan Mohan Cornea Society" on the lines of the Castroviejo Cornea Society in the U.S.A.Memebership of the Madan Mohan Cornea Society is restricted to only those Ophthalmologists who are activity engaged in "Cornea" as a specialty. Its seminars and scientific deliberations, however, will be open to all ophthalmologists and others interested in the programmes and deliberations. These should prove immensely useful to the practicing ophthalmologist. |
